    The first years of Aston’s life were not always happy, but one thing she could count on was that the boy next door would always look out for her. Her mother would parade dozens of new boyfriends through the house, her need for drugs and alcohol more than her need to care for her only child. When she cleaned up and found a wealthy man to lover her, Ashton’s life should have gotten better, but her stepfather was cold, hard and brittle, although he did continue to be responsible for Ashton after her mother died.An adult now, Ashton crazes someone to hold her, to love her and to vow to always cherish her, a dream, perhaps? Then her past came back in a rush of emotion. That little boy who protected her is all grown up and Reed Collins still made her heart do flips. Reed as a man is different form the boy he once was, sadder, wiser and his life is in turmoil. He doesn’t feel worthy of Ashton’s love, as much as he wants it and he never wants her to know why. It is his burden of guilt to carry and he would do anything to spare her the pain he would bring, but tongues wag and the truth may be revealed, ruining both of their chances for love and a happy ending.R.J. Loom’s Fractured Palace tells of the dark side of life, of secrets and fears, loneliness and pain, but it also tells of learning to trust, learning to forgive and learning to hope for a brighter future. Powerful writing will seep into your soul as two people attempt to leave the burdens of the past behind, one seeking redemption and the other seeking the joy of feeling wanted.     I've waited a bit to write my review. I needed to let the immediate high a readers gets after finishing a great book settle or all you were going to get what gibberish.Ashton Roberts and Reed Collins are super. Just super. All I could think the ENTIRE time was "What the hell is Reed hiding?" He pissed me off a few times, but that was definitely the intention of the author. The dude just, gah! acted human, I guess. he screwed up and didn't know how to fix it. So he bolts. But Ashton is, well she's his girl. Whether or not they are together, she's it. And he knows it. Reed may not always admit it, but deep, deep down, he knows it. Ashton is heartbreaking. the poor girl goes through so much in her life it's hard not to dive into the book and cuddle her and offer her some liquor to help heal. don't take that to mean so much happens that it's not realistic enough to keep your attention, because it is. You know how it goes, at some point in a book you think "sheesh {insert author} give the character a break, no way would all of this happen to one person." I never felt that way throughout Fractured Palace. the plot line was spot on, the characters were well developed, and I really enjoyed it. I give 4.5 stars {seriously, Goodreads, give us half stars already}

    This was such a sweet, thoughtful story. I truly loved Reed and Ash, even though sometimes I wanted to lovingly smack Reed (with an iron chair). They were perfect for each other in the most believable way and I was cheering for them to make it even though I knew it wouldn't be easy.Ash had a complicated childhood but she rose above it and became a person I would be proud to know and call friend.Reed... He had so much guilt inside that it seemed as if he couldn't see the great man that *we* could clearly see he was. When he had spontaneous, unguarded moments, I always grinned (Also his mom was THE best!)I laughed (RJ's is great at the witty lines), I sighed and ultimately I cried. The author has a knack for making you think about things you often don't. What could you forgive? What couldn't you?If you like New Adult, you will adore this book. If you don't generally read it (like me) you will love it too because the story is THAT good.

    'Fractured Palace,' is the first book I've read by R. J. Loom. This book was wonderful, and definitely not what I expected. The plot twistd and turns kept me reading.What I really like about this book is that it is not your typical romance novel. This book had all the feelings that real life bring, it was not an unrealistic fairy tail. It was gritty, sad, happy, sexy, hot and sizzling all wrapped up into a wonderfully written plot.Well done R.J. Loom! I'm looking forward to reading more of your books!I would highly recommend this book!!

    Fractured Palace is AMAZING!!! I adored these two together. AND I want a Reed of my own. I also love when RJ went back to show their history together and how Reed cared for Ashton when they were young and still does. You will love this book...

    Oh my gods! Wow! Put your pajamas on, get your tissues, and settle in for the long haul. This is not a story that you can just pick up and put down whenever you get tired, need to eat, or even go to the bathroom. This is a story of love, sacrifice, and finding one’s self. Perfectly flawed fairytale!We start the story off with Ashton. She is at a party and has to make a split decision to call her stepdad to pick her up. After she is picked and is gearing for an arguement they go look for her mother. She is dead. Ashton feels like she has been through it all. She has had a shabby home and upbringing, watched a string of boyfriends come in and out of her home, and was in the middle of her mother’s addictions. Her mother cleaned up, married her stepdad, and things went well until her mother relapsed and ended up dead. It was a devastating time but her stepdad continued to support Ashton. Ashton always knew what she didn’t want and worked incredibly hard to do everything in her power not to end up like her mother. Only this didn’t work out to her advantage. She constantly fell into bad relationships but the one thing that always seemed to help was her old friend, Reed. He always seemed to be there when she needed him. This goes back as far as her being 5. They used to be neighbors and Reed, along with his mother and brother, helped look after Ashton when she was in a bad spot at home. They would lose touch due to their age differences but he always popped up when she needed him most. Everything moves along and you just know this is going to work but Reed is beating himself up about something. Some terrible secret, some darkness, that he just can’t shake. This is where I leave you to find out the rest of the story. The twists and turns you are about to embark on cannot be given in a review. The only way to find out is to experience the emotions that both of these characters deal with. New love, turmoil, guilt, what-if’s....If you want it, this story has got it!“It was all Ashton wanted, to be happy . She wanted the fairy tale with a Prince Charming, palaces and happy endings. Unfortunately, all she seemed to get was the part of damsel in distress. And it sucked.”“So you’re the ‘Expect nothing from me. I get bored easily, guy’?” Reed chuckled and shook his head. “No, Ash. I’m just a guy who hasn’t found the girl I want to shape my world around. Simple as that.” Her brows pulled together in a frown. It was a sweet sentiment but something didn’t sit well with her. “Reed, you shouldn’t have to change for anyone.” His lips tilted up in a half grin. “I know. It’s the willingness that would be telling. And the right girl, would be willing to shape her world to include me in it too.”“Good answer, Mr. Collins,” she teased, even though she may have slightly melted on the inside.”“My point is you cannot assume the motivations of others. You can judge but you have no idea what pushes people to make decisions that are unlawful or immoral. Sometimes , they may feel it is their only option.”Perfectly flawed! This is an incredible journey to follow. Once I started reading I could NOT put the book down. It is exhausting chasing after fairy tales that don’t exist...but their fairytale is incredibly different and soooooo worth the read. If you have made it this far into my review I am not exactly sure what you are waiting want a sweet love story? Go somewhere else. You want an emotional feelcoaster that is witty, funny, but also enough to break your heart and put it back together??? This is the story you NEED! A MUST READ!

    Ashton Roberts just wants a place to call home. Somewhere she can feel safe, and not have to worry about her screwed up past coming to haunt her in the middle of the night. After a rough start in her life as a child, she was upgraded to a luxurious lifestyle of the rich, and not so famous due to her mother finally falling in love with the right person. But when a decision made by her mother goes wrong, it alters everything Ashton has ever wanted, or worked towards in her life. Sadly, Fate, and life are the world's conspirators, and no matter which direction she seemed to turn in life, it was never the right thing at the right time for her. Sure, she's got a great townhouse, an okay stepfather who has catered to just about one of her needs, and a job that at least pays the bills. The only thing she wants in her life is stability. Then she runs into him. Reed Collins.Her childhood protector (in a sense), and someone that had always been there for Ashton on the cold nights when nobody else was. A chance run in with him at a party leaves Ashton's world spinning. She remembered those baby blue eyes anywhere, and the way they used to gaze at her under hooded eyelids in High School. But what she doesn't know is that Reed Collins hides a secret. Not just from her, but from everybody. As their friendship grows into something more, it is no shock that the truth comes out, and leaves Ashton with more questions than anything else in her life. Can they overcome the simple fact that the past happened?Fractured Palace isn't at all what I was expecting. It was a quick, enjoyable read that left the reader wondering what in the world Reed could be hiding. When it all comes to light, you won't want to set the book down. I felt that the first half of the book really dragged on. It wasn't until you realize Reed is hiding something that has you questioning his motifs, and hesitancy to be with Ashton that leaves your head spinning. I was a little upset by what happened, and understood immediately where Reed was so hesitant to let Ashton into his life, but my goodness!The characters were well developed throughout the story. I did like the flashbacks between the two main characters because I felt like it helped see exactly what was going on without giving too much away. The plot line was well developed as well. A little slow to start off with like I stated above, but in the end it was completely worth it. A wonderful 4 Bars to RJ Loom on a really enjoyable read! **This review is also on Battery Operated Book Blog**

    This book is beautifully written! I love how it isn't your fluffy romance and has some real substance. There are characters who love deeply, but are human and far from perfect. Both main characters need to deal with some very intense issues and both need to forgive themselves and each other in order to move on. Ashton and Reed formed a bond when they were children, but life happens and they lose touch until fate steps in. As they discover their feelings never went away for each other, they also need to decide if love is enough. I could not read this book fast enough! I needed to know why Reed did what he did and if Ashton could move past it. Also, Ashton's step-father and Reed's mom and brother add so very much to this story and they filled in many of the details of the past. Great, great read!

    This book really does take you through so many emotions. You feel so bad for everything that Ashton has experienced and the knock on effects that this had on her. Reed made choices in his life that have lead him to meeting back up with the girl next door. When they collide the Sparks fly! I spent a lot of this book trying to guess what secret Reed was hiding and I have to say that I didn't guess this one! The way that all of the characters had their own internal struggles and how the through had to come out to allow everyone to move on was fantastic. The epilogue was so well written and I have to say put a goofy smile on my face! I really would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance book!

    Fractured Palace has got to be one of my top favourite books. I couldn't put it down, I loved all the characters and how RJ drew me in with the story and the characters that she made so loveable. Once you've started you've got to finish, Fractured Palace is addictive. Without giving away any spoilers, because you'll have to read for yourself, you don't be disappointed. I love how the story develops and shows the history between the characters. I'll have to read again and can't wait to read more of RJ's writing.

    Fractured palace brings to mind basically a fractured home in my mind and basically that is what it means. Poor Ashton never understood how anyone could say home is where the heart is because she was never happy or stable in any of her homes growing up. This is something that she wants to fix and wants to get her degree, make her own way, and make her own stable life. The problem is that things do not always work out the way that you want, or need them to. Then she meets Reed who is a blast from the past and used to help her as a child. Now he is everything that a grown woman could want. Problem is they both have secrets and Ashton's past is threatening her future. Can they manage to find love in the turmoil that is their lives?There are flashbacks in this book so if things like that bother you then you probably will not like this. The characters are well written and you do find out about them in the present and the past. I think Reed and Ashton make a great couple. I highly enjoyed this book.

    This book had so much to offer. Love, generosity, secrets, and tragedy. It was hard to write a review because I was so touched by the book. It's really well written and doesn't stick to the billionaire boyfriend and damsel in distress so readily available in the Contemporary Romance genre. Ashton (Ash) is a young woman looking for the love she never quite received at home. Reed is her next door neighbor with a few secrets to keep. Growing up Ash has a mom who cares more about her next fix, her next boyfriend than raising her daughter. Reed's family is the loving family Ash has craved all her life. When Ash's mom meets a man who can take them away from their dismal life she thinks things will be good. Unfortunately, her mother's reckless behavior leads to more tragedy. It's a beautifully written story of love and the perseverance of the human spirit. I truly can't recommend this book enough!
